Recently, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, took to a social media platform to formally announce that Tesla's much-anticipated TeraFab chip manufacturing facility will kick off operations in precisely seven days. This ambitious project is designed to churn out an astounding 100 to 200 billion chips each year, a feat that would catapult it past TSMC's current output, establishing it as one of the premier wafer factories on a global scale. The factory will harness cutting-edge 2-nanometer process technology, seamlessly integrating logic chips, memory chips, and sophisticated packaging techniques. In a bold move that challenges conventional cleanroom norms, Musk even floated the notion of enjoying hamburgers and puffing on cigars within the factory premises. While the endeavor is fraught with obstacles, including technology licensing hurdles, a scarcity of skilled talent, and staggering investments in the hundreds of billions of dollars, Musk remains resolute in his belief that constructing the factory in-house is an indispensable stride towards fulfilling Tesla's voracious appetite for AI chips.
