On March 9, 2026, reports emerged indicating that NVIDIA is planning to resume production of its previous-generation graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3060. Samsung Electronics’ foundry unit will utilize its advanced 8nm process to restart manufacturing of this GPU, with the primary goal of easing the ongoing shortage of consumer-grade graphics cards. Samsung previously served as NVIDIA’s key foundry partner for Ampere architecture graphics cards, providing 8nm process support for the RTX 3060 as early as 2021. For this renewed production, Samsung’s manufacturing lines are well-positioned for a smooth transition, having already secured orders for NVIDIA’s custom chips for the Nintendo Switch 2. NVIDIA is expected to approach this production restart discreetly, boosting competitiveness by integrating DLSS 4.5 technology and focusing on the 8GB GDDR6 variant. Priced between 1,599 and 1,799 yuan, the GPU is positioned as an entry-level gaming graphics card. This production resumption represents a short-term emergency strategy aimed at addressing supply shortages and fulfilling current market demand.
