Recently, the 73rd International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC 2026) convened in San Francisco, USA. During the event, Zihan Wu, a doctoral candidate from the 2022 cohort at Peking University’s School of Integrated Circuits, was bestowed the prestigious Kenneth C. (KC) Smith Award. This accolade recognizes his exceptional contributions to in-memory computing, search technologies, and their practical applications in solving optimization problems. Instituted this year by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) to honor trailblazers in the integrated circuits domain, the award stands as the pinnacle of international recognition for doctoral students in solid-state circuits. Globally, no more than two individuals are honored with this distinction annually.
