Gartner's most recent report reveals a troubling trend: the entry-level PC market, defined by devices priced under $500, is on the brink of extinction by 2028. This impending disappearance is largely attributed to the ongoing DRAM supply shortages. Looking ahead to 2026, the global PC market is anticipated to experience a sharp decline, with shipments projected to plummet by 10.4%. This downturn is even more severe than that expected in the smartphone sector, which is bracing for an 8.4% decrease. The ripple effect of escalating storage costs has reverberated throughout the consumer electronics landscape, driving up prices for both PCs and smartphones by 17% and 13%, respectively. Notably, low-end models have borne the brunt of these price hikes.
