Microsoft recently announced that the Shader Execution Reordering (SER) feature has concluded its preview phase and is now officially integrated into DirectX Raytracing (DXR). SER is specifically designed to address GPU load imbalance issues in ray tracing by intelligently grouping shader execution tasks to reduce divergence and enhance parallel efficiency. Microsoft's tests show that performance improves by 40% on the NVIDIA RTX 4090 after enabling SER, with the Intel Arc B-Series graphics cards seeing increases of up to 90%. As a mandatory feature of Shader Model 6.9, SER requires compatible graphics card drivers for support, with actual results depending on hardware compatibility. Microsoft has released a minimal demo program for developers to evaluate optimization potential, with expectations for future implementation in more games and graphics applications.
