According to two sources speaking on condition of anonymity, three prominent memory manufacturers—Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron—are ramping up their customer audits. Their aim is to confirm that orders stem from genuine demand and to deter downstream hoarding, which could further disrupt the already precarious balance between supply and demand in the memory market. Sources within the supply chain reported that the three major players are weeding out speculative or inflated orders through consultations on supply targets, order quantities, and the authenticity of customer demand. Several industry executives highlighted that this phase of the memory 'super cycle' is set to severely affect price-sensitive entry-level and mid-range consumer electronics, including TVs and set-top boxes. In response, some manufacturers of entry-level PCs have begun incorporating memory slots to facilitate the reuse of existing memory chips in their inventory. Moreover, with memory costs accounting for a doubled proportion of total expenses, several mobile phone manufacturers have revised downward their shipment forecasts for 2026.
