In the wake of swirling rumors suggesting that TSMC is set to shift 40% of its production capacity to the United States, Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, stepped forward to set the record straight. He emphasized that TSMC's move is, in essence, an expansion of its production capabilities, rather than a relocation of its existing ones. Huang elaborated that, given TSMC's substantial growth aspirations over the next ten years and its pressing need for energy resources, it is imperative to concurrently construct wafer fabrication plants in Europe, Japan, and the United States. According to Huang, adopting a global footprint will not only help TSMC surmount energy constraints but also cater to the burgeoning demand for computing power. He anticipates that the United States will shoulder a portion of this new production capacity, thereby fostering a more robust semiconductor supply chain. However, he also clarified that the share of U.S. production capacity is not expected to reach an excessively high level.
