Recently, Gao Huan, the Chief Technology Officer at CATL, announced that sodium-ion batteries are poised to achieve widespread use in specific industries. These batteries are set to replace lithium-ion batteries and serve as a cornerstone for energy restructuring. With the aim of attaining resource and energy independence, CATL is making a strong push to advance sodium-ion battery technology. Notably, the low-temperature variant of the sodium-ion battery in CATL's Tianxing II light commercial vehicle series has already entered mass production for the light commercial vehicle market. This battery stands out with its exceptional low-temperature performance, high safety standards, and considerable cost and resource efficiencies. By 2026, CATL envisions a broad application of sodium-ion batteries across various sectors, encompassing battery swapping services, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and energy storage systems.
