Micron Technology, Inc. has revealed that it has entered into a letter of intent with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. The agreement entails Micron acquiring Powerchip's P5 wafer fabrication facility located in Tongluo, Taiwan, China, for a sum of $1.8 billion. This strategic move is designed to enhance Micron's production capacity of memory chips. The deal is projected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2026. Upon completion, Micron will assume control of the plant and gradually increase DRAM production in stages. Substantial wafer output is expected to materialize in the latter half of 2027.
