On January 14, 2026 (local time), the U.S. White House made an announcement stating that, effective January 15, it would implement a 25% tariff increase on specific imported semiconductors, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, as well as their derivative products. Earlier, on August 6, 2025, former President Trump had indicated his intention to levy a tariff of roughly 100% on imported chips and semiconductors, while exempting those produced within the United States from such charges.
