On January 14 (local time), GlobalFoundries made a public announcement stating that it had entered into a conclusive agreement with Synopsys to purchase its ARC processor IP solutions division. This acquisition includes a range of products such as the classic ARC CPU, the RISC-V-based ARC-V CPU, the ARC VPX-DSP, the ARC NPX NPU product lines, as well as specialized instruction set processor software tool suites. Following the successful completion of this transaction, the acquired business will be seamlessly integrated into MIPS, a company that GlobalFoundries had previously taken over. This strategic move is set to expedite innovation at GlobalFoundries and amplify its capacity to deliver solutions tailored for consumer-grade physical AI applications and cutting-edge AI chips.
