Texas Instruments has officially announced that its 12-inch semiconductor wafer fabrication plant, SM1, located in Sherman, Texas, USA, has kicked off operations following a three-and-a-half-year construction period. This plant represents the inaugural facility among four new wafer fabs slated for the Sherman manufacturing complex. SM1 is set to expand incrementally in response to market demand, with the ultimate goal of attaining a daily production capacity of tens of millions of chips. This substantial output will play a pivotal role in powering a diverse array of electronic devices. The Sherman manufacturing complex has drawn a staggering $30 billion in investment, with projections indicating the creation of up to 3,000 direct job opportunities upon full ramp-up.
