On December 17 (local time), all three of the major U.S. stock indices ended the trading session in negative territory. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped by 0.47%, the Nasdaq Composite Index took a more significant hit, plummeting 1.81%, and the S&P 500 Index wasn't spared, sliding 1.16%.

Large-cap technology stocks, which are often seen as bellwethers of market sentiment, generally followed the downward trend. Tesla's stock price took a tumble, dropping over 4%, while Oracle's shares fell even harder, declining by 5.4%.

In terms of sectors, those related to energy storage concepts and semiconductors were among the worst performers, suffering substantial losses. On the flip side, the oil and gas, energy, and precious metals sectors bucked the overall trend and posted gains.

The Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index, which tracks Chinese companies listed in the U.S., also closed lower, down 0.73%. This decline was mirrored by most of the well-known Chinese American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), which also experienced drops in their share prices.
