As reported by wccftech, Apple is set to unveil its high-performance M5 series chips in the first half of 2026. This series will encompass three distinct models: the M5 Pro, the M5 Max, and the M5 Ultra. Notably, the top-tier M5 Ultra chip is earmarked for inclusion in the next-generation Mac Studio, elevating it to the status of Apple's most formidable desktop computer.
The M5 series chips are engineered using TSMC's cutting-edge 3nm process technology and incorporate SoIC-MH 2.5D stacked packaging technology. This innovative approach allows for the independent design of the CPU and GPU, substantially enhancing heat dissipation efficiency and ensuring sustained performance output.
The M5 Ultra is projected to link two M5 Max chips via the UltraFusion architecture, effectively doubling the core count. With this setup, the CPU could potentially boast 36 cores, while the GPU might reach an impressive 84 cores, marking a significant leap in performance compared to its predecessors. This enhanced capability will adeptly handle high-demand tasks such as 8K video editing, 3D rendering, and extensive AI model training.
Furthermore, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are slated to feature in the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, respectively. Meanwhile, the M5 chip will extend its reach to other product lines, including the Mac mini and MacBook Air, facilitating a sweeping upgrade across the entire Apple ecosystem.
