Despite ASML's assertion that the technology it has sold to Chinese chip manufacturers is outdated and incapable of producing the most advanced chips, analysts are still apprehensive. They worry that this technology could potentially be employed in the research, development, and deployment of military technologies. According to sources, a department within the China Electronics Technology Group has procured DUV lithography machines from ASML. Moreover, ASML has come under fire for allegedly supplying a DUV lithography machine system to the Shenzhen International Quantum Academy. Earlier, the Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service had already raised alarms about China's progress in quantum technology development. In response, ASML clarified that it does not directly comment on sales made to specific customers. The company stressed that the technology sold to China is not at the forefront of innovation. Furthermore, ASML noted that suppliers are not in a position to ascertain whether customers are subject to export control restrictions, emphasizing that the onus for national security matters rests with national governments.
