According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics is expected to regain the top position in the global DRAM market by revenue in the fourth quarter, surpassing its domestic rival SK Hynix. Samsung anticipates its operating profit for October to December to exceed KRW 18 trillion, with the Device Solutions division contributing KRW 15.1 trillion, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 422%. Previously, Samsung had maintained its leading position for 33 consecutive years but was overtaken by SK Hynix in the first quarter of this year due to falling behind in the HBM chip competition. Since developing HBM chips in 2013, SK Hynix has dominated the global HBM market. Industry analysts note that Samsung's narrowing technological gap in HBM, coupled with rising prices of traditional DRAM products, has boosted its performance. In November, the price of 8Gb DDR4 memory for computers rose by 15.7% month-on-month, having surged sixfold since March, with an expected 50% increase in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter.
