Recently, the U.S. Department of Commerce gave the green light to Nvidia for exporting its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China. The availability of these chips is restricted solely to Chinese commercial customers that have undergone official vetting procedures. Moreover, the U.S. government is set to receive roughly 25% of the revenue generated from these related sales.
The H200 chip stands out as a more high-end model when compared to the H20 chip. The H20 chip was specifically designed for the Chinese market but comes with performance limitations. However, under the existing export arrangement, only older batches of the H200 chips, which were manufactured approximately 18 months ago, are eligible for export to China.
