Between December 3 and 4, 2025, the China National Intellectual Property Administration made public details regarding three cases. These details reveal that Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) has, for the very first time within China's legal landscape, filed invalidation challenges targeting three 3D memory patents owned by Micron Technology. The specific patents at the center of this dispute cover memory arrays along with their formation processes, three-dimensional memory devices and the methods used to form them, as well as charge storage devices.

Prior to this, YMTC had already taken legal action by initiating patent infringement lawsuits against Micron across multiple jurisdictions. These include the United States, the United Kingdom, various European countries, and Germany. In these lawsuits, YMTC alleged that Micron had violated several of its 3D NAND technology patents. In a reciprocal move, Micron has also launched invalidation challenges against YMTC's patents in China. At present, these cases are still undergoing the judicial adjudication process.
