The Indian government has given the green light to a ₹72.8 billion (roughly equivalent to RMB 5.8 billion) rare earth magnet manufacturing initiative. This move is part of a broader strategy to diminish India's reliance on imports from particular nations.
Spanning seven years, the scheme will set up five manufacturing units, each boasting an annual production capacity of 1,200 tons. Consequently, India's overall yearly output of rare earth magnets is set to surge by 6,000 tons.
The plan encompasses ₹7.5 billion in capital subsidies and ₹64.5 billion in sales incentives, ensuring comprehensive support across the entire industrial spectrum, from rare earth oxides to the final magnet products.
India's Minister of Electronics and Information Technology has expressed optimism, stating that upon project completion, the nation's dependence on imported rare earth magnets is projected to plummet to virtually nil.
