IBM and Cisco have jointly declared their intention to embark on fundamental research aimed at establishing network-distributed quantum computing. They anticipate that this cutting-edge technology will come to fruition in the early 2030s. Within the forthcoming five-year period, the two entities will collaborate to develop the inaugural proof-of-concept network. This network will seamlessly integrate numerous large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers, enabling them to work in tandem to tackle computational challenges involving tens to hundreds of thousands of qubits. Such intricate networks are indispensable for addressing highly complex issues and will act as a catalyst for the advancement of groundbreaking quantum applications.
