On October 28, semiconductor maker GlobalFoundries revealed its plan to allocate 1.1 billion euros towards enhancing the production capacity of its Dresden, Germany-based factory. By the close of 2028, the factory is projected to have an annual production capacity surpassing 1 million wafers, thereby establishing itself as the largest facility of its type in Europe. This strategic move aligns with the EU's ongoing efforts to advance the European Chips Act. Moreover, the investment is anticipated to garner support from both the German federal government and the state of Saxony, with the possibility of securing EU approval later in the year.
