The Dutch government’s intervention in the operations of Nexperia—a semiconductor firm under Chinese control—has set off a worldwide automotive chip crisis. As one of the world’s top three power semiconductor leaders, Nexperia is a vital supplier to the automotive sector, annually producing billions of chips for major clients, including leading automakers like Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Tesla.
Citing “national security” concerns, the Dutch government has imposed a worldwide operational halt on Nexperia. This move seriously undermines the principles of a market-driven economy and fair competition. Wingtech Technology, Nexperia’s parent company, has vehemently protested the decision and has engaged both legal and diplomatic channels to urge the Dutch government to rescind the misguided directive. The goal is to preserve the openness and collaborative spirit of the global semiconductor supply chain.
