An unprecedented surge in memory shortages is currently underway. Based on a report from the Korea Economic Daily, the 'super cycle' of storage demand propelled by artificial intelligence (AI) appears to be more long-lasting and vigorous than previously anticipated. Prominent memory suppliers, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, are set to revise their pricing strategies in the fourth quarter of this year. Specifically, prices for DRAM and NAND flash memory are projected to increase by as much as 30%. This move aims to address the soaring demand for AI-driven storage chips and to bolster the profitability of the sixth-generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM).
