On October 22, 2025, during a routine press conference at the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, a reporter raised a question regarding Taiwan regional vice leader Hsiao Bi-khim's recent announcement. Hsiao had stated her intention to encourage Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and other enterprises within the chip industry supply chain to invest in the United States and partner with U.S. firms to boost productivity. In response, spokesperson Zhu Fenglian emphasized that the DPP authorities have been displaying an excessive degree of subservience towards the United States, repeatedly compromising and bowing to the U.S.'s coercive and exploitative demands. Zhu likened this approach to "feeding a tiger with one's own flesh," highlighting the insatiable and voracious nature of such a relationship. She noted that both the Taiwanese public and the industrial sector are increasingly recognizing the detrimental impact of this strategy and are feeling the pain it brings.
