The Global Computing Consortium (GCC) has recently made a significant announcement with the official release of the group standard titled "Unified Basic Input Output System (UBIOS) Infrastructure Specification" (T/GCC 3007—2025). UBIOS, an acronym for Unified Basic Input Output System, represents a state-of-the-art firmware framework designed to seamlessly support distributed architectures and facilitate collaborative operations between software and hardware cores.
This groundbreaking standard was the result of a collaborative effort involving 13 prominent industry enterprises and research institutions, such as the China Electronics Standardization Institute and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. This milestone achievement signifies China's attainment of its first comprehensive, standardized, and scalable domestic firmware system standard.
UBIOS is engineered to systematically overhaul the underlying architecture, effectively addressing cutting-edge technological trends including future heterogeneous computing and Chiplet technology. One of its key innovations is the introduction of the Unified Virtual Bus (UVB) concept. This concept facilitates efficient interaction within the BIOS as well as with peripheral components, all achieved through standardized interface definitions.
