Qualcomm has transitioned its flagship chips to Arm's cutting-edge computing architecture, the v9, which incorporates novel features designed to boost AI capabilities. This strategic shift is anticipated to bolster Arm's revenue streams and enable Qualcomm to sustain its competitive stance against rivals MediaTek and Apple.
Last week, Qualcomm unveiled a new lineup of computer and mobile phone chips, all of which are built on the Arm v9 architecture. This architecture is particularly adept at managing tasks like chatbot interactions and image generation. MediaTek has already confirmed its adoption of this architecture, and the majority of industry analysts expect Apple to follow in the near future. Qualcomm, however, has refrained from commenting on the specific technical aspects of its chips.
In a previous development, Arm had threatened to revoke a critical license from Qualcomm, but later retracted that decision. The v9 architecture was introduced by Arm in 2021, representing the first major overhaul since the release of Arm v8 over ten years ago.
