On September 2, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India will embark on commercial semiconductor production by the end of 2025, with aspirations to transform into a global epicenter for chip innovation. During the inaugural session of the India Semiconductor Conference in New Delhi, Modi disclosed that test chips from Micron and the Tata Group have already commenced production. He underscored that the rapid evolution of India's semiconductor industry will culminate in the launch of commercial chip production this year. According to data, India's semiconductor market has expanded from $38 billion in 2023 to an anticipated $45-50 billion in 2024 and 2025, with the government setting an ambitious target of $100-110 billion by 2030. Presently, India is advancing with ten semiconductor projects, totaling an investment of $18 billion, which includes the establishment of two new 3-nanometer fabrication design centers in Noida and Bangalore. Modi asserted that despite a delayed start, the momentum of India's semiconductor industry is now inexorable.
