US Stock Market Indices Close Lower Despite Months of Gains

On August 29, the US stock market closed with all three major indices in the red. The Nasdaq Composite Index retreated by 1.15%, notching a modest weekly decline of 0.19% but still achieving a cumulative gain of 1.58% for the month of August. The S&P 500 Index dipped by 0.64%, with minor weekly and monthly declines of 0.1% and gains of 1.91%, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined slightly by 0.2%, tallying a weekly loss of 0.19% but a robust monthly gain of 3.2%. Notably, both the S&P 500 and the Dow have logged gains for four consecutive months, while the Nasdaq Index has extended its winning streak to five months. Large technology stocks generally suffered losses, with Tesla, NVIDIA, and AMD declining more than 3%, Intel dropping over 2%, and Amazon, Meta, and Netflix falling more than 1%. Microsoft and Apple shares experienced marginal declines, whereas Google shares bucked the trend, edging slightly higher to reach a new record high.
