Microsoft has announced the upcoming retirement of the Mobile Plans app from Windows 10 and 11. Tailored for Windows PCs equipped with cellular connectivity, the Mobile Plans app facilitated eSIM technology by enabling devices to connect to cellular networks through mobile carriers. Due to its specialized nature, this app has not garnered widespread recognition. To ensure greater flexibility for users, Microsoft recommends purchasing data plans directly from individual mobile carrier websites.
In Windows 11, the "Settings" app now includes integrated features that prompt users to share device identifiers with mobile carriers for seamless eSIM configuration. As a result, customers will not experience any loss of cellular functionality, as the Mobile Plans app's retirement will be smoothly transitioned to carrier-hosted portals. The app will remain operational until February 27, 2026, after which it will be delisted from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft is actively collaborating with mobile carriers to streamline this transition process for a seamless user experience.
