A team led by Academician You Zheng from Tsinghua University has unveiled a dual-mode LiDAR system leveraging hybrid cascaded translational metasurface technology. This system, through the orchestrated control of geometric and propagation phase metasurfaces, seamlessly transitions between two operational modes: high-precision beam scanning and efficient flash illumination. This versatility addresses the diverse 3D sensing requirements of various scenarios. When paired with an adaptive 3D detection scheme, the system dynamically tailors its detection mode and resolution, transcending the constraints of conventional LiDAR technology. It offers a novel, compact, and highly adaptable solution for 3D sensing applications.
