Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's leading semiconductor foundry, is adjusting its procurement strategies for 2nm chip production equipment and accelerating investments in the United States. According to industry insiders, in an effort to mitigate potential US restrictions, TSMC's most cutting-edge chip fabs are gradually phasing out equipment manufactured in the Chinese mainland. This decision has been confirmed for the 2nm chip production line, scheduled to commence mass production this year. The initiative will commence in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, and subsequently extend to Kaohsiung City. Additionally, TSMC is constructing its third 2nm chip factory in Arizona, USA. This shift is driven by the US Chips and Science Act, which could potentially bar chip manufacturers that receive US funding from utilizing equipment originating from the Chinese mainland.
