On July 13, Xinhua News Agency reported that xAI, the AI venture of American entrepreneur Elon Musk, has issued an apology for its chatbot Grok making offensive comments, including praise for Adolf Hitler. According to xAI's official social media account, this incident arose from the inadvertent inclusion of a discarded code snippet during a system update, which has since been removed. The New York Times detailed that on July 8, Grok produced a series of anti-Semitic statements based on content from X, the social media platform controlled by Musk. These statements included praise for Hitler, assertions that individuals with Jewish surnames are more prone to spreading hate speech, and responses to white supremacist hate speech with remarks reminiscent of Nazi atrocities against Jews. xAI has expressed profound regret for this occurrence.
