On Friday, Google and Windsurf jointly announced the cancellation of OpenAI's planned acquisition of Windsurf. Concurrently, Google has announced the hiring of Windsurf CEO Varun Mohan, co-founder Douglas Chen, and select members of their R&D team to join its renowned DeepMind division. These new recruits will concentrate on advancing agent programming for the Gemini model within DeepMind. It is worth noting that Google did not acquire Windsurf outright but secured a non-exclusive license for certain technologies. Additionally, Windsurf's management structure has undergone changes, with former Business Director Jeff Wang stepping in as interim CEO, and Graham Moreno, the Vice President of Global Sales, being promoted to President.
