By 2024, China's expenditure on research and development (R&D) is projected to surge by approximately 50% from the conclusion of the 13th Five-Year Plan, marking an additional investment of 1.2 trillion yuan. This significant increase has elevated the intensity of R&D investment to 2.68%, nearing the average benchmark of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Zheng Zhanjie, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, disclosed these figures during a press conference.
