A recent study conducted by Microsoft has unveiled a stark contrast between the promised post-pandemic era of work-life balance and flexible working arrangements and the harsh reality faced by many employees. The study reveals that the majority of individuals are working over 12 hours a day, even extending their labor into weekends, which is significantly impacting productivity. While artificial intelligence (AI) holds the potential to alleviate this situation, it also poses a risk of exacerbating the problem. The research indicates that workdays now span from as early as 6 AM to well past 8 PM, with employees seldom taking breaks, even on weekends, as approximately 20% of them check emails before noon on Saturdays and Sundays. This pervasive pattern of ultra-long workdays is undeniably detrimental to productivity.
