The Supreme People's Court has recently published six landmark cases concerning the infringement of personality rights through internet and information technology. These cases encompass violations such as the unauthorized use of portrait and voice rights leveraging AI technology, as well as the illicit trading of facial data. Notably, one case saw a software company convicted by the court and ordered to compensate individuals for using their photographs without permission in 'face-swapping' apps, from which the company profited. In another instance, three companies were found guilty of infringing upon individual rights by processing and utilizing someone's voice without authorization, employing AI technology. Furthermore, the illegal trade of facial information and the unauthorized access to home surveillance cameras were also deemed criminal, underscoring the robust judicial safeguards in place to protect citizens' personal information and privacy rights.
