The US Department of Commerce has renamed its Artificial Intelligence Security Institute to the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), redirecting its efforts towards addressing national security concerns and avoiding foreign regulatory burdens. On June 3, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that this transformation is aimed at evaluating and bolstering American innovation, thereby maintaining the nation's preeminent position in international AI standards. Previously, the institute had focused on mitigating risks within AI systems and fostering collaborations with several prominent AI companies.
