Google has temporarily suspended its AI-powered search feature, "Ask Photos," within Google Photos, which had been gradually being introduced to users since fall 2024. Addressing the criticism, Google Photos Product Manager Jamie Aspinall stated that "Ask Photos" had fallen short of the expected standards in latency, quality, and overall user experience. Leveraging Google's Gemini AI model, this feature was intended to enable users to retrieve photos via intuitive natural language queries. To rectify these issues, Google is currently working on enhancements and aims to reintroduce an improved version in approximately two weeks, restoring the original search speed and recall accuracy.
