A technical glitch on Google Maps falsely indicated the closure of substantial portions of German roads, causing widespread confusion and congestion during the Ascension Day holiday. On the holiday's first day, motorists in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin, and other locations discovered numerous red dots on Google Maps marking road closures. This prompted many to reroute, resulting in heavy traffic on secondary roads. The police and transportation authorities were inundated with calls for assistance. However, drivers who relied on alternative navigation apps or listened to traffic radio confirmed that most highways were actually clear. Google is currently investigating the root cause of this issue.
