The Israeli spyware firm NSO Group has been mandated to pay $168 million in damages to Meta following a hacking incident that compromised its systems. A federal jury in California ruled that NSO Group was liable for the attack, bringing to a close a six-year legal battle. The intrusion involved exploiting vulnerabilities to deploy Pegasus spyware, which subsequently monitored the activities of 1,400 WhatsApp users, including activists and journalists. In response, Meta initiated legal proceedings and has now been awarded compensation.
