On May 5, local time, OpenAI, a pioneering artificial intelligence research firm, announced that its non-profit parent organization will retain control of the company. Simultaneously, OpenAI will advance structural adjustments within its for-profit sector to enhance funding capabilities and maintain a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Last December, OpenAI had contemplated transforming into a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) to attract broader investment and overcome the constraints of its current non-profit structure. However, the latest announcement indicates that OpenAI will uphold the governance of its non-profit parent while restructuring its for-profit arm.
