The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced plans to intensify research and development (R&D) efforts in universal and industry-specific large models, while expediting the creation of high-quality industrial datasets. Chief Engineer Xie Shaofeng emphasized that China has established a comprehensive AI industrial system spanning from the foundational layer to the application layer. Notably, large AI models are swiftly being integrated into industries like electronics, raw materials, and consumer goods, encompassing R&D design, pilot testing, manufacturing, and operational management. As a pivotal application domain for AI technology, the manufacturing sector is poised for a sweeping intelligent transformation. In pursuit of this objective, MIIT will concurrently foster supply and application, propelling the intelligence of the entire manufacturing process, key industries, and products. Furthermore, the ministry aims to nurture industry leaders and a diverse range of specialized, innovative small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), establish an open-source AI community, and expedite the formulation of critical and urgently needed standards.
