In the wake of the ongoing antitrust trial, Google is contending with a multitude of penalties. Recent revelations indicate that Google shells out a substantial sum each month to Samsung, securing its AI model, Gemini, as the default assistant on Samsung devices. This arrangement came into effect after Google was found guilty of illegal monopolistic practices, specifically for setting Gemini as the default AI assistant on new Samsung Galaxy S series phones. During the initial hearing of the antitrust case against Google in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, focusing on Google's search market dominance, the US Department of Justice advocated for banning Google's default display position agreements. Furthermore, the Justice Department demanded that Google sell its Chrome browser separately and license its search engine data. Conversely, Google proposed that it would merely abandon the default agreements as a compromise. Amidst these developments, Google is not only grappling with numerous antitrust lawsuits but also facing a potential crisis regarding the separation of its business entities.
