The European Union has imposed fines of $570 million on Apple and $228 million on Meta for violations of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The White House has strongly criticized these actions, describing them as extortion and labeling the DMA as discriminatory. The EU, however, has refuted these claims, emphasizing that the DMA is designed to ensure fair competition within digital markets. According to reports, the imposed fines are well below the maximum penalties allowed under the DMA, and there are suggestions that the EU may have delayed the fines to appease former U.S. President Trump. Nevertheless, the EU has not commented on these speculations.
