Google DeepMind has debuted DolphinGemma, an AI model tailored for investigating dolphin communication. Building upon the established Gemma series, DolphinGemma can produce lifelike dolphin sound sequences and operate smoothly on mobile devices. This summer, The Wild Dolphin Project aims to employ Pixel 9 phones to engage in 'conversations' with dolphins via synthesized sounds and analyze their replies, significantly boosting research productivity. The DolphinGemma model boasts approximately 400 million parameters and leverages Google's SoundStream tokenizer to process dolphin sounds, accurately predicting the subsequent sound in the sequence. This innovation heralds a novel avenue for exploring marine life communication.
