Waymo is reportedly considering the use of camera video data from its self-driving taxis, particularly information pertaining to passenger identities, to train generative AI models that could potentially be employed for targeted advertising in the future. Nevertheless, in compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act, users retain the right to opt out of data sharing. A spokesperson for Waymo clarified that this feature is currently in the development stage and will not alter the existing privacy policy. They emphatically denied any plans to utilize in-car footage for training AI models for advertising purposes, stating that the page description in question was merely placeholder text and stressing that passengers will be afforded the option to opt out once the feature is implemented. Last year, Alphabet invested $5 billion in Waymo, while external investors contributed an additional $5.6 billion, valuing Waymo at over $45 billion.
