Amidst the fierce competition between tech giants like Google and OpenAI, the race to secure top AI talent has reached new heights. According to Business Insider, Google's AI division, DeepMind, has adopted a "unique" approach to retaining talent by implementing a non-compete agreement for select UK employees. This agreement stipulates that, upon leaving the company, these employees are prohibited from working for competitors for a period of one year. During this time, DeepMind will continue to pay the employees' salaries, effectively granting them an extended period of paid leave. Nevertheless, this measure has sparked concerns among some researchers who worry about being sidelined and missing out on the rapid advancements in the AI industry.
