As reported by The Information, a foreign media outlet, OpenAI is contemplating the acquisition of io Products, an AI hardware startup co-founded by former Apple design luminary Jonathan Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. This potential deal, valued at $500 million (approximately RMB 3.641 billion), aims to bolster OpenAI's efforts in developing AI-powered personal devices. Currently, io Products' device designs are in their nascent stages, envisaging innovative products such as screenless 'phones' and AI-integrated home appliances. These devices aspire to revolutionize the manner in which users engage with technology. While Altman is heavily involved in this venture, he is not a co-founder. This acquisition could significantly enhance OpenAI's technical prowess and expedite its presence in the personal intelligent device market.
