On November 8, according to a report by the UK's Financial Times, as AI labs deepen their involvement in the energy sector and bypass intermediaries to vie for scarce power equipment, Anthropic has struck a large-scale gas generator procurement deal. In late September, the company secured a procurement commitment for 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty generators worth $3.4 billion from equipment supplier OnePWR Solutions in San Antonio, Texas. Anthropic did not acquire OnePWR, but the deal includes the engineering and construction capabilities needed to install the generators. People familiar with the matter said no OnePWR employees transferred to Anthropic; the company had already ordered generators from Caterpillar two years earlier but needed financing to complete the transaction. Anthropic initially planned to be a customer of OnePWR but later shifted to taking over the equipment it had ordered from Caterpillar.
