Perplexity has announced the launch of Teammates, an AI colleague product, available to Max members. Once a user provides instructions, the product can autonomously remain on duty and handle tasks, consulting humans only in specified scenarios, and supports integration with Slack for collaboration. Currently, only the web version is available, and the related usage quota is deducted from Max membership benefits. A similar product is xAI's Grok Bot. The core boundary of rights and responsibilities for such AI colleagues lies in the division of permissions. Existing products can retain operation logs and support manual takeover at any time, but details such as fallback mechanisms for misjudgments and complete behavior records still need to be clarified. The focus of AI development is shifting from answer accuracy to autonomous on-duty capability and the degree to which humans grant permissions to it.
